Today there will be an eclipse of the Moon whichis the first to be visible in the ČR in seven years. This is also the first Lunar Eclipse of 2011 and the first of two such events this year.
The eclipse today will be the longest total lunar eclipse since July 2000(which lasted 107 minutes). It will last a record 101 minutes and it will be the only full eclipse visible from the Czech Republic between February 2008 and September 2015, the Czech Astronomical Society writes on its www.astro.cz website.
Another rarity is that the eclipse occurring today June 15, is less than five days before the summer solstice. The Moon will find itself close to the Centre of the Milky Way which will make objects in space very well visible.
Prague, as reported on May 26 (CTK): "From Bohemia, a large part of the eclipse will be observable. The Moon will appear on the southeastern horizon at 21:09, already fully immersed in the Earth's shadow."
"The eclipse will culminate at 22:13 when the Moon disc will go through the darkest part of the Earth's shadow. It will find itself 7.5 degrees above the horizon, in the Ophiuchus (Serpentarius) constellation."
The eclipse's full phase will end at 23:03."
My Friends in Prague; enjoy it, it sounds really intriguing and should be quite a spectacle. Cheers.
